The Land Grant of the Biosphere Reserve
This implies negative consequences not only from the point of view of agricultural productivity but also in relation to the environment and biodiversity. The abandonment of land in Galician traditional farming landscapes meant the expansion of the forest areas, with the consequent loss of semi-natural habitats of high ecological and cultural value related to human activity.
In many cases this expansion is considered to be globally negative because it involves the development of large amounts of biomass, assuming a significant increase in the risk of fires and their consequences.
In other cases, these abandoned lands are occupied by forest plantations made up of fast-growing species. Thus, the substitution and simplification of the natural mosaics of land uses characteristic of the traditional rural environment by monocultures greatly impoverishes the biodiversity associated with the former.
In this way, about 350 unemployed people have received or are currently receiving theoretical / practical training focused mainly on agroecological production, in the processing of agro-industrial processing and in the
The experience gathered thanks to the daily contact with the students allows us to meet their main needs in order to materialize the ideas intended. Among these factors, the difficulties of access to production land and the investment required for the establishment of structures for agro-food production or processing are very prominent.
This situation is in contrast to the growing number of unproductive land in the Reserve, with socio-economic immobility and consequent environmental damage. Thus, appears the idea of the creation of
