Education and research




After the declaration of the territory as a Biosphere Reserve, there was a concern within the Reserve about how to approach environmental education in this territory in a comprehensive way, about how to make visible @dito declaration by UNESCO and its opportunities among the population, as well how to transfer the values of the Biosphere Reserves to the population and make it known, with the aim of ensuring the construction of a participatory Biosphere Reserve in which society, and especially young people, are the basic pillar on which to settle.


This program of activities to be developed with the school community, is presented as a non-formal learning initiative in different fields, closely connected with the objectives of the Biosphere Reserve, in order to stimulate creativity and youth potential in the processes of analysis and practical application of the knowledge acquired, to get involved in a sustainable space in terms of innovation and social welfare.


In summary, they try to achieve the following specific objectives:

  1. Educate to acquire applicable competencies in a sustainable model of social development, relying on environmental ethics and moral values, for the promotion of environmental protection inspired by the UNESCO MaB Program.

  2. Foster habits of respect and awareness in youth that invite a harmonious relationship between citizens and the environmental commitments that arise in the territory.

  3. Encourage the involvement of the entire educational community of the municipality, so that there is a real commitment to improving and conserving the environment through citizen participation and the promotion of volunteering.

  4. Establish a channel that allows and facilitates the population’s access to information on environmental matters, through the creation of the figure of “Youth Biosphere Informants” in educational centers.

  5. Become aware of the need for saving and sustainable use of resources (water, energy, minority of waste, etc.).

  6. Know the influence and impacts to which the environment is subjected to certain anthropic activities and the consequences of inappropriate habits.

  7. Know the effects of climate change, as well as give the necessary guidelines to apply measures in our daily lives that help fight global warming.

  8. Identify the most common invasive species in our territory, problems and their repercussions in the environmental and social fields.

  9. Promote the respectful treatment of domestic animals, emphasizing their needs and characteristics that differentiate them from fauna and the wild world.

  10. Raise awareness and value the natural, cultural and ethnographic values of the corresponding town hall, often great unknown among the local population and youth.
