The Biosphere Reserve Mariñas Coruñesas e Terras do Mandeo has a wide range of protected natural areas, forests and mountains, lakes, reservoirs and estuaries. Throughout the Biosphere Reserve there are Protected Natural Areas, including those of Red Natura ones and other natural zones.
This territory offers many activities to discover.
In this list, we can underline, for example, the hiking route walking around the bank of the river Mandeo, walking through some stages in the English Way to Santiago de Compostela, doing sports such as sail or even visiting the factories dedicated to the production of cheese or honey are only some of the choices.
Nevertheless, the Biosphere Reserve offers not only several activities, but also a wide range of delicatessens. On the one hand, from our estuaries we can taste mussels, algae, clams and other marine products.
On the other, from the land we can also talk about our delicious cheeses, jams, honey and about some local varieties such as cabbage of Betanzos, the Cebolla Chata of Miño (onions) or the Black Tomato of Santiago.
In addition, we also have a extensive offer for drinking: aromatic liquors and wines, such as the Terra de Betanzos one or the Branco Lexítimo. These could be combined with the bread or the empanada of Carral.
Finally, if we talk about architectural heritage, people can visit Roman constructions, pazos, monasteries, forts, churches, castles, etc. such as the following ones:
Historic-Artistic Site of Castro Antigo of Betanzos
Pazo de Mariñán
Rectoral de Cines
Romanesque church of Santa María de Cambre
Monastery of Sobrado dos Monxes. In addition we can talk about fortifications such as the Castle of Santa Cruz or the Tower of Celas
