The Region of Betanzos Is considered as one of the historical wine-growing areas of Galicia,in view of its ancestral and traditional character preserved to this day,maintaining its own unique potential that differentiates it from the rest of the Galician wine producing regions.
The denomination of quality “Viño da Terra de Betanzos”was created in the year 2000.At present it has 6 attached wineries that produce around 160000 liters per year,cultivating about 8 ha and achieving an average alcoholic strength of 11.50.
The Galician Institute of Agri-Food Quality (INGACAL) Is in charge of its control and certification.
The wines of the Land of Betanzos,are light wines,of moderate alcoholic graduation. They are made from white grapes and have a pale yellow color with greenish reflections; With fruit aromas and flowers and with a slightly acid taste and persistent aftertaste.
Among the varieties of “Vino de la Tierra de Betanzos” is it so Godello, Agudelo and the autochthonous Blanco Lexítimo, responsible for the different character of the white wines of this zone.
In grape varieties are highlighted Mencía, Brandellao y Merenzao.
